Update on the Americas
Each quarter, ROCLA brings you their newsletter that highlights news and issues from around Latin America. This newsletter is full of carefully curated information from around the globe to bring you perspective and opportunities to engage with your community on a local and international level.
ROCLA has named a new Steering Committee member, Wesley Costa de Moraes, a native of Brazil. Since 2018, he has served as Assistant Professor of Spanish and Latin American Cultures and Literatures at SUNY Geneseo.
We are excited to introduce a new section of the ROCLA Newsletter entitled "Perspectives." As we were putting together this edition of the newsletter, we received articles by authors that reflected on their subjects from specifically Latinx perspectives. We found these voices particularly interesting and decided to feature them. We’re asking that our readers and friends contribute articles, letters, editorials or commentary from a Latinx perspective that we will feature in this section.
COVID-19 has affected all aspects of our daily lives, our activities and what motivates us as human beings. But ROCLA’s all-volunteer, committed, Steering Committee members have worked hard to move forward. We host speakers and monthly programs to provide you with accurate, on the ground, current information about Latin America. With the assistance of Zoom, we have “traveled” to Brazil, Cuba, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and the Mexican border. Our new convener, Tom Ward, reaches out to potential speakers and facilitates a very lively discussion following each monthly program.
