Grahame Russell, the Director of Rights Action, will present an update of U.S. policies toward Central America based on his on-the-ground experience.  He argues that, “From Democrats to Republicans, from Obama to Trump, U.S. military, economic and ‘drug enforcement’ policies perpetuate the violence and repression, poverty and racism, corruption and impunity that force tens of thousands of Central Americans to flee their homes, communities, and countries, year after year, decade after decade.”

Russell is a lawyer and global human rights and development activist. For over 10 years, Grahame lived in Mexico and Central America, working with grassroots organizations and NGOs. Since 1995, Grahame has been co-director of Rights Action. Rights Action raises funds for community-controlled projects in Guatemala, Honduras, Chiapas, El Salvador, and Oaxaca.  Rights Action carries out education and activism work in the U.S. and Canada related to global human rights, and environment, and development issues.  Grahame regularly writes and gives public presentations about these issues.  ROCLA awarded Russell the International White Dove Award in 2001.
