Every year, at the Rice & Beans Dinner, the Silent Auction is a major attraction. All items have a beginning bid of less than $100, although sometimes the bidding goes beyond that level. People donate dozens of items—jewelry, candle sticks, CD’s and DVD’s, elegant cups and saucers.
Here are a few items this year.

An imported brass menorah for Passover, and “The Medieval World,” a CD set (with guidebook) from the Great Courses.

Home-made quilt, donated by Peg Billyard. It’s a hand-made crib quilt measuring 30″ by 43″. It is 100% cotton flannel in the Tumbling Block pattern.

Arpillera related to the 1988 Chilean national plebiscite, which was a national referendum held on 5 October 1988 to determine whether Chile’s President, Augusto Pinochet, should extend his rule for another eight years. The “No” side won with nearly 56% of the vote, thus ending the General’s 16½ years in power.
